Default Main/Dip Problem

Problem for the leckies,!!! with main beam and dip, The problem is I have to hold dip lever back to drive on main beam or it just drops back to dip. Any ideas anyone. Is it the switch or relay.

If main beam comes up, then dies again, it sounds like the relay is not holding.
Relay should drop out of main when the ignition is off, so you can't start up again on main beam (I think) so I'd be looking at the relay power supply, and the relay itself.

I did notice that once yesterday when I switched ignition on,I had left lights on last time i had used it, and main beam was on. so it looks like either feed too, or relay fault,is that what you are saying.

I would just replace the turn signal/headlight stalk. I had the same problem on my Toyota from 250,000 miles of signaling. It broke on a cross country (US) trip and I spent most of 2500 miles holding the turn signal stalk back so I wouldn't blind oncoming traffic. I have mild carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand now.

Sounds like relay 2/1 (the headlight relay) is not making proper contact on the board, or has a circuit break probably on it's earth line. On the relay board (behind panel by left knee) there is a double relay across the top and middle rows. That is the headlight relay.

All the best, Peter.
