Recently bought 03 1.9D S40. Has a whining sound, I suspect its a turbo problem as the sound occurs as I accelerate. Any drop in power is not immediatly noticable but it doesn,t feel the same. Oil ran very low before oil light came on, this leads me to believe the turbo may have dried up and the whirring is from here but cannot be sure.Could it be an intercooler problem? Also there are two types of turbo used in this model, this is an early 03 model. Has anyone had similiar problems as this and if this is a turbo problem, what type of turbo fits this model please?

Turbo's are quiet common for failing on the 1.9d's,

If oil lights come on you probably have an intercooler full of oil and i wouldn't drive it as if engine sucks any up it will run on it until it revs itself to death
