440 (1996) 35,000 miles - for sale
FOR SALE:
440, 5 door/hatch, metalic silver, glass sunroof, alloys. 1996 with only 35,000 miles on it. Unmodified (I replaced the radio/cassette - but kept the original radio) and currently hardly used (part of the reason for looking to dispose of it). The inside is in good condition. It recently failed its MOT (front box of exhaust and front shocks mainly) but drives fine (other than the noisy exhaust) and is booked for re-test next week. Tax expires end of this month. It has been owned by my family since new and I'd be delighted to see it go to someone specifically interested in this model or volvos generally whether as a restoration project or even for parts. Offers that beat the scrap value and/or comprise some element of charitable donation considered. Please let me know if of any interest - ideally within the next few days. Its located in West London. Thanks. |

440 1.8i (1996) for sale - 35,000
Thanks for your response.
Photos are hopefully attached. These were taken about 4 years ago since when the car has covered 5,000 miles and require the following up-dates: - The rear wheel arches are showing some rust; - The passenger door wing mirror is cracked (still MOT legal) and the colour coded casing is gaffa taped on; - MOT failed last month with the principal items (as far as I can tell) being front coil springs incomplete and exhaust (front down pipe) has a “major leak of exhaust gases” (and is noisy as a result); there are a bunch of advisories too. Apart from the noisy exhaust, it seems to drive fine. Price? (To me) its worth more than the scrap. Taking that aspiration into account and noting what similar examples seem to go for, I was hoping to realise around £400 for it. I’m open to any sensible offers and would consider seeing some of the price going to (my choice of) charity. I’d like to try and replace the original stereo (and remove the one I had installed). If of genuine interest at that price with a sale to be made in the next week or so, I can provide more details regarding the failed MOT and try to up-load current pictures (of any specific areas requested). Please let me know. Thanks. |

Thanks letting me know about your car, unfortunatly it is just alloys i am after, and given your location collection would not be an option.
If you are unable to sell the car whole and break it for spares please let me know as I would take the alloys on their own and im sure i could arrange collection via Shiply.com |

Okay. The car goes for an MOT today and I expect the list of fails will be too expensive to economically put right. Would you like to make me an offer on the alloys with/without tyres (and any other removeable bits)? Thanks.

Going for scrap sunday 30th/monday 31st - up to £100 excl. wheels.
MOT fails on re-test = principally the down pipe in the exhaust but some other minor stuff too. Please let me know whether or not of any interest. P13 440: I am due to be driving to Glasgow early next week and could bring alloys to there if you thought of any value to you - please make me an offer if you are interested. Thanks for your responses in the meantime. |

Surely such a low mileage example of a car like that is worth saving.

john 850, i have texted you. Please call anytime but scrap man due to come today (monday 31) at 1pm. Please let me know any specific areas you would like photographed otherwise i will concentrate on the bits that have deteriorated since the current pics. The car is parked on the street ao will need to be stored today (which i think i can arrange) as i am away from 1 feb for one week.
Please let me know if there is any more information you would like. I would prefer that it goes to someone with an interest in getting it back on the road. Given the deadline, i'd appreciate if you could let me know whether or not it is of interest. Thanks. |
