Engine: TDI: New to forum, need some advice

Hey all, I a about to buy my second Volvo..hopefully a 1997-1998 V70 2.5tdi with under 200K km but I don't know much about the tdi except that it is a great fuel economy wagon.
My other is a 98 V70 XC with about 114k miles on it, bough it used with 65k miles and have replaced the usual things a time or two but all in all it is a good car.
Any info or help or general advice on a tdi wagon would be a big help.

the v70 tdi has the audi engine under the bonnet, and is not covered in haynes, it is however covered in the audi a6 for that year.

critical items.

1 pump timeing has to be done via a scan tool and has to be set correctly or it will give you cold start and warm start issues.
2 make sure the belts have been done and the water pump as this can be costly.
3 if anything goes wrong you will have to get the dtcs read either with volvo or an independent to see whats going on , i use the volfcr programe which will do yours and i find it a good programe, you can also set up the pump timeing with this programe. the car is not obd2 compliant, the system is msa 15.7.
4 apart from that its a good car all the useuel issues as with any volvo.
i have the 850 tdi with the same engine and touch wood no major issues at the moment.however there is a lot of expertise on this site who will help in case of emergency.hope that helps

it's not that I am aware of, but at the moment my family and I are in Germany in Bremen...teaching at an International school and we are in need of a 2nd. With three car seats, there are not really many other options beside a Landy D110, (would love to have on of those) but I think that even the rear seet room is superior on the volvo.
With my XC our kids can barely touch the front seats from the back unlike my 540 BMW (in the states-storage)
