Default Another transmission question

I know this has been discussed before so apologies for repeating what has probably been said. My XC60 has just turned 51k, and after not experiencing this for several months the transmission sometimes, but certainly not always, jerks a bit when put in D or R. A bit like putting it in gear with the engine running to fast. Everything else about it is fine. It's been said that a software update may solve it, although a local Volvo specialist says it's likely a "valve body sticking"
Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

When was the gearbox last serviced?

you can get the oil changed and get the latest Gearbox software and go from there. Valves don't stick on these.

I've not had it done yet due to the mileage but
It's something I've been thinking about so I guess that's the first step. Thanks

Fluid change or flush, and is the software update main dealer only? I ask because our main dealer never seem interested in anything other than selling cars.

If it has the Gen 2 TF80 gearbox (i.e. MY2010 or later) and its the 6 speed - get the software updated if the problem occurs when the gearbox is hot or cold. Probably worth getting the fluid changed at the same time.

The gearbox gets hottest when driving around town, constantly accelerating and stopping - not on the motorway where is sits with the torque converter locked.

The new software changes how the gearbox adapts at the extremes of oil temperature.

I used a local indie for software updates (some do have VIDA)

Fluid change, just drain and fill. Your car only has 51k on it, so it shouldn't be too dirty. For best results, you may need to get it done a couple of times. Just doing one drain and fill only renews a bit of the fluid, as most of it is lodged inside the transmission that isn't drainable (hence the need for more than one drain and fill).

Speak to some independent specialists. Some can update software, but not all. You have to check with them. They'll be cheaper than the dealer labour wise.

Thanks everyone for your replies/advice. We're off to Cornwall next week so while we're there I decided to book it in to a Volvo specialist in Penzance. It may or may not be necessary but they're going to do a flush and software update. I'll post the outcome in due course. Because the car is so good in every other way I thought it deserved a treat!

I had the transmission serviced in Cornwall last Thursday, they did a flush and update. Annoyingly on the way back the over enthusiastic engaging of the transmission still happens going from park to drive and reverse, but as before, only occasionally. At least I've got fresh fluid now!
