Default Engine oil

About to change the oik on my D5 and noticed I have 5w30 and not 0w30 like the book says.

I purchased the same oil I have used previously (shell ultra helix). It meets the ACEA A5/B5 spec.

Will this be a problem long term?

0W30 A5/B5 oil is the recommended one to use by Volvo. However, if you read the manual, it actually gives alternatives that you can use depending on the climate you live in. 5w30 is fine for the UK climate... I've used it plenty of times and never had an issue, but make sure it meets A5/B5 spec.

It won't cause problems.

except with emissions and fuel consumption .... Volvo UK only advise 0w/30 which the Government emission and fuel consumption tests were done on .

I've used 5w30 A5/B5 in my car for years... didn't notice a bit of difference with fuel consumption or emissions... it flew through its MOT every year. Plus, it was much cheaper to buy than 0w30 oil. That's not because its poor quality, as it was branded quality stuff like Petronas and Shell Helix. If the manual says its safe to use, that'll do me. The Government know nothing about cars.

Also, we don't live in Alaska. 5w30 A5/B5 is perfectly adequate for this country's climate. The book says it.
