Default Early S60 D5 auto as a tow car?

Hi,
Having had a V70 D5(03 MY) AWD auto in the past and towed a big twin axail, I am not worred about the pulling power of the D5.My question is a S60 front wheel drive going to be ok pulling a 1500 kg van (checked kerb wight as 1625KG giving 92%) or dose it suffer from wheel spin and what is it like on a damp grass pich and hill starts.
I have got my eyes on two cars 1:2002 MY ,1 owner 85K with volvo removalble tow
non geartronic auto.
2:2004 MY 2 owner 77K geartronic no tow bar.More money

Looking through the forums is the 2002 D5 engine a bit iffey and the same for the gearbox?

I would like to get a 185 HP D5 V70 awd auto for the towing duteys ,but I cannot afford one at the moment.

Present cars '97 S70 T5 auto(180K) and a '98 V70 2.5 LPT Auto AWD(90k).The S60 is to replace the S70 as a day to day car,and save a bit on fuel, espley towing a caravan.

So S60 owners what are the cars like as tow cars and whats your opinioun on the 2 above S60's? or should I get a some what cheaper(and lighter so not so good for towing) petrol S60 and keep the V70 for towing rather than just as a spair car?and evenaulay get a V70 D5 awd.
Do you find you need self levling or do they cope ok?

Regards Roger

Roger, i tow an Elddis Odyssey ( MIRO 1326 kgs ) with my S60 D5 185 manual and it pulls it without issue although i am conscious of the fact that i am over the advisory 85% .

I have not had to touch the suspension on mine and it certainly does not sit low but obviously noseweight is critical.

Fuel economy both solo and when towing has been excellent

Darryl
