Main dealer serviceing is expensive for what you get, and i am sure they cut corners to get the job done as quickly as poss, if the job takes 2-3hrs to do properly i am sure they will try and do it in a hour but charge for 2-3hrs. Some of the work i have seen that main dealers have done a monkey could do better (drilling out bolts but not replacing them etc).

You are better off going to a good inderpendant garage where most of the time the standard of work is better and cheaper. And as long as the work is done by a competent person and orginal parts are used the warrenty is not affected.(some europian directive i think).

Ive heard of that too.

Making it stick when something did go wrong would be hard. My local independant is an Ex Volvo dealership, they have fully volvo-trained staff, so I cant see there being too much quibble there. However let for instance, kwikfit do your servicing with original parts and IMHO there'd probably be a case to answer.

wise words all round guys!
So I've just booked in a wee experimental job at my "local" (ahem) specialist. Even after fuel to get there and back its £40 saved already. If all goes well I've got plenty more for him to have a crack at....the savings'll keep on coming. Fingers crossed.......

But my main dealers were SOOO nice, and they would have given me a "free"car to play with.(although I never take it!) By the way though folks, most dealers do lower rates for older volvos, £41 per hour at mine, Clearly still not worth it though.
