Seat cover removal and replacement
Hi Folks, I've searched the forum looking for a step by step guide to removing and replacing the seat covers on a 1968 Amazon. Can anyone help please?

Quick search brought this up.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwb0BQYQHNo Shouldn’t be different, if at all, for yours. Do you have the new covers? Did you ask the supplier? Or are you looking to buy? Or have I missed your question altogether? |

The video relates more to the difference of the early seat cover form to the later model. Having replaced the seat covers on a '66 model, I can say that it's simple and almost self explanatory once you carefully deconstruct the covers from the seats. The seat back is a little tricky inasmuch as one must pay attention to the places where the foam is glued, the location of the hog ties at the middle upper position and don't lose or damage the flimsy muslin covers which protect the foam and enable new covers to slide easier over the foam. If you decide to replace the webbing, which you should, the original pirelli webbing is expensive and not entirely necessary. If you do replace the webbing, consider the alternatives offered by the various European suppliers. None of them offer the webbing to replace the ajustable lumbar support. The original webbing was 40mm wide, the replacement webbing is 50mm. There are other nuances which will be obvious when you have them apart. Fitting new foam to the bases can be a struggle, though again it is really quite simple. Hope this helps. cheers, richo |

Haven't watched the video so don't know if this is mentioned. Spray the muslin with silicone to help the cover slide down.
Rubberised elastic webbing from a local furniture upholstery shop is cheap and good. They will have a Pirelli substitute too but as said there is no need for that. Available on eBay as well if needed. |

As long as you have the seat back apart, replacing its suspension is a no-brainer.
You might want to consider a wire/spring suspension instead of rubber; similar to the suspension kit for the seat bottom, Swedish Embassy also offers such a mod for the seat back as well. Very happy with mine. Last edited by csm22; Feb 12th, 2020 at 15:12. |

Thanks folks. I really appreciate the quick responses. Im going to use the existing covers and install headrests. Ive already seen the lumbar support is in deed broken on one of the seats so a DIY project needed. Thanks again.

csm22;
Thanks for the reference! ...you know I like the all metal solution for its longevity, but unfortunately my stock of the necessary formed wires is now all gone, and I must develop a new supplier...so the kits are temporarily unavailable... Cheers |
