I can 100% confirm that scrappage cars CAN be broken for spares but the bodyshell can never return to the road and must be scrapped. There is NO legislation that forbids scrappage cars being broken up by the scrap metal dealer who recieves the car. The car must be complete when its traded in under the scrappage scheme however (i.e be running and driving)

Indivudual scrap yards may decide not to sell parts and simply crush the cars due to the sheer number of scrappage cars being recieved. Ive heard of many yards keeping newer stuff to break for spares but crushing older cars that are of limited spares value as they enter the yard.

I have sent the following email.

From your FAQ's;

"I'm a scrap dealer, can I be registered to receive scrap cars?

You need to be licensed as an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) by the Environment Agency in order to treat End of Life Vehicles (ELVs). If you are already an ATF, there is no need to register separately."

My breaker is a registered ATF so can you clarify the situation?

Are parts from cars taken under the scrappage scheme allowed to be sold?
May I publish your reply on our website to inform our member of the official stance?
I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,

Simon
I will update when I have a reply.

I can confirm that it has only 50K on the clock and the door cards are in the boot. Looks like drivers window has gone and glove box is gone, navy blue pinstrip plush interior looks very clean. Tail lights are gone as I have just taken them for a member.

Very difficult to find 240's in scrapyards any-more.

The last time I was looking for something unusual a couple of years ago even my local ( Wigan ) small Volvo specialist mechanic/breaker said he doesn't seem to get 240's any-more and even when he does it is not usually financially viable to keep them for long because of low demand and limited space.

When I was looking for a PS rack in a scrapyard recently ( not physically driving round them you understand ) I used a service on the web that sent a request to participating scrapyards.

I only had about 4 replies NATIONWIDE !!!!

If I was in desperate need of anything major I'd be PMing you for the location of the yard.

Coiln, this one's in Wigan:

1978 244 being broken... looks far too good to break. Maybe also a scrapage scheme victim?

This is what i received today from the horses mouth.

Provided the vehicle has been initially treated at an ATF (battery & fluids removed), which would mean that it would no longer be classed as hazardous waste, and a CoD issued the scrapping process could stop at that stage, although the vehicle should not be put back on the road even if this is possible.

The vehicle could then be passed to a third party (the "displayer"), although it would be worth them checking first any implications with the Environment Agency since the vehicle would still be considered as waste, although not hazardous waste.

Just shows what a waste of money and good motors this scheme is.
What is there to stop Trotters enterprise from buying the vehicle for spares.

John
Looks to be quite a good un too on appearance John.

I'm not actually looking for anything at the moment though but I'll watch the auction.

Strangely your links didn't work for me - here is the auction page - link looks the same but works, how odd.

I have sent him an e.mail, asking why it was being broken, end of last week, and that I would be interested in whole car, had no response. The 244 on e.bay that is.
