Very good 240 SE Estate in our breakers
Was in my breakers last week and there was a near perfect 93K 240 SE Estate with low miles (50k or 80k) only the front door cards had gone. Was taken on the scrappage scheme. Lots of good bits for anyone needing them.

I thought under the scrappage scheme they were not allowed to sell parts off any of the vehicles.
Dealers are not allowed to touch them and if they do they are in real financial trouble. Could you please clarify. |

I don't know what the legislation is regarding selling parts from these vehicles. I do know that there are at least 5 Volvos in my breakers yard which quite clearly state "Scrappage" across the windscreen. How do you identify a part as coming from a car that has been removed from the road under the scrappage scheme. The S70 that is in there has already had the engine removed.
This is a licensed vehicle dismantler not a dealer.

Why would I want to report it? It is a valuable source for spares for the enthusiast DIY mechanic.
If they are breaking the law that's their problem.

Very difficult to find 240's in scrapyards any-more. The last time I was looking for something unusual a couple of years ago even my local ( Wigan ) small Volvo specialist mechanic/breaker said he doesn't seem to get 240's any-more and even when he does it is not usually financially viable to keep them for long because of low demand and limited space. When I was looking for a PS rack in a scrapyard recently ( not physically driving round them you understand ) I used a service on the web that sent a request to participating scrapyards. I only had about 4 replies NATIONWIDE !!!! If I was in desperate need of anything major I'd be PMing you for the location of the yard. Colin . Last edited by c_lee; Nov 1st, 2009 at 00:24. |

Quite agree, if these perficatly good cars are being scrapped for the sake of a discount that you could probably negotioate anayway, we mite as well make use of the parts if they become available. Such a shame the 240 at the start of the post was being scrapped in the first place.
I was thinking of scrapping a 1989 240 130000 miles that had been mechanicaly tinkered with using some parts from an early car (by the previous owner) that didnt realy work, but ran and qualified for the scrappage scheme. But after a few discussions, it became aparent that I could get very close to the deal without scrapping the car as I was an existing volvo driver and could take advantage of a diferent volvo offer, but have decided against deal anyway, as the V50 D5 that we were going to replace is only 18 mounths old with 14000 miles. The 5000 pound scrappage alowance against a new one did look tempting though, but the other volvo scheem offered nearly the same, so mite as well wait as no doubt it will be available at three years when we realy want to change. |

Okay people then the guy's that i have been speaking to in the business are wrong when they say nobody is allowed to take any parts off and that includes breakers.
And just to clarify something i am not in favour of the scheme as it will do nothing for the enviroment imo.I can understand why people are selling there cars as i was offered mega bucks but then you need money to buy the new one. I know the green party etc supporters will probably disagree with me. |
