740 1992, 2000cc - Idle problems ( air mass m

For some time, when the engine is hot, i have problems with idling, engine gets off frequently when on idle.
The car also loose "power" and fuel consumption went very high.
I was told its the Air Mass Meter, unfortunately this unit costs fortune
anyone knows how to reset the Air Mass Meter, or override it ?

Try a secondhand parts dealer or your local scrappy for a replacement part. It is also possiblke that a Bosch dealer will be able to help as they are the system manufacturers. You might be lucky and get away with thoroughly cleaning the inlet tract (from air cleaner to inlet maifold) taking care not to damage the fine wire inside the AMM. If this wire is already damaged or missing then you must fit a replacement AMM.

I had this problem too. I gave the car to the local injection specialist who stripped and cleaned the sensor (says it was very dirty with excess carbon) for £15. My 740 runs very smooth now.

Had a similar problem on my 740 turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket sucked in 'tween pots two & three,also check vacuum lines this could give the same probs
