Hi Guys, Im new in the Volvo world and still trying to buy one on a limited budget, can you please explain what you mean by "sports" I have been watching another 940 close to where I live and that is described as a 940 2.3 SE Auto LPT ( though its 180,000 miles ) and the one on ebay a 940 SE turbo Auto, are these the same model? thx

Hello,

No. When Volvo created the 'Sports Edition' they didn't bother creating any special badges, instead relying on the 'SE' and/or 'Turbo' trim badges, therefore to the uninitiated its just another SE Turbo with rather fancy alloys. They were all HPT never LPT.

Sports Editions are distinguishable on the exterior by the egg crate grill, rear roof spoiler, 16" 'Galaxy' deep dish alloys, Turbo+ system sticker in one of the back side windows (sometimes), and lowered ride height. I've seen several Sports missing the alloys, the previous owners must have known how rare they are, the gits...

Just a thought worth considering, the sports editions a starting to get as rare as hens teeth now so buying one on a budget might present a problem! Is it particularly the the sports edition your after or just a 940? I have a 2.3 lpt which is a massive improvement on a previous 940 2ltr I had, which was under powered! definitely worth waiting for a 2.3

Thx for reply, think I know what u mean, the 940 I am watching is an ordinary 940 turbo LPT,( is that low pressure and high pressure ? )ebay is the sporty turbo HPT, well I supose the insurance would be better and Im not really worried which type, its up for £595 so may get it a bit cheaper, however, when I said buying one on a budget, that depends how much I get for my bmw, lol. I normally buy my next car before I sell the one I have, but thats been vito'd by the handbag, now beemer gotta go then buy the new one. Depending on funds will determine what comes nxt,thx for info anyway.

LPT is low pressure turbo, which gives you lots of pull from low down revs but no real turbo kick like you would experience from a high pressure turbo. Depending on condition etc. £595 sounds like a good price, I paid £400 + trade in (old rover 600) for mine and I'm over the moon with it. Go with £500 cash and I would imagine you will have a deal!! Good luck and keep us posted

ok,thx for that May try and get a look at it monday after work. Whats the normal spec? wheels look like trims fitted from pics and not my choice but can soon rectify after a while maybe, body looks good in pics but will take that with a pinch of salt till in the flesh, ad says ; Service History, MOT June 2010, Electric windows, Remote central locking, PAS, Roof Rails, Drives superb , but then you wouldnt say "drives like a bucket of nails " would you? lol..anyway just going to look and see and go from there. Should I be aware of any bad things that happen to 940's in particular, suspension etc? I drive less than 5 miles to work so Im not over worried about the mileage only the wearing effects to look out for, dont want to buy a lemon
