Default 1992 2 liter se

Hi everyone. After being stuck with a broken modern D5 Volvo outside my house I have decided to consider buying a white 240 SE which seems to be immaculate. The owner bought it 28 years ago and although it’s lived outside it seems to have been looked after really welll
It’s over what I thought my budget was but I am stuck.

Should I take the leap and do you have any advice
It only has 110000 on the clock (the speedo works). The chap says he just uses standard unleaded

As a post 1976 240 it runs on E10 fuel , happily. Mine does. You don’t mention price or saloon/ estate, so it is difficult to advise on value.I'm guessing estate
Rust protected , could make a good daily driver!

Yes it’s the estate. Front electric windows. He’s asking £3000

Check the MOT history for bodywork problems and the mileage accuracy. A good test drive, usual stuff.
If it’s a 2.3 manual, so much the better.
2.0 litre autos are slow on hills but not bad if you’re not a hooligan!🤨

Doesn’t sound too dear for a good example to me.

If it looks like this corker, I’d be tempted!😁

That doesn't sound unreasonable for a low mileage, one owner 245 in excellent condition. You could always try an offer; i'd start at two aiming to shake on two-and-a-half for the right car.

Sight of the MOT history would be helpful, as would photographs. Body and underside corrosion will be your main concern as mechanical issues are usually easily and relatively cheaply fixable.

The two litre is considered by many to be somewhat under-powered, especially when heavily laden, and is no more economical than the 2.3 as it needs to be worked harder for the same performance. It was launched as a tax-break model for certain markets which were kinder towards sub two-litre cars.

We had several two series cars in period and were well pleased with them. Now they are considered collectible and command a price premium. When our last 745 died in 2016 we looked for a suitable replacement and ended up buying a phase 1 V70 for <£1000 which we still run. If you like the idea of a 'classic' then go for it, but there are cheaper alternatives out there!

Regards, John.
