That sounds just like mine. Will rev erraticly on low throttle and will only rev to about 3000. I will be buying off eBay and replacing the internal part.
Thanks

Most awkward bit I found when doing mine[it's been great since doing it-sings round to the red line easily]was the wiring. This was because from the factory the wiring runs between the starter motor and the engine block and there's not enough of a gap to pull the electrical plug through so I had to move the starter motor to enable me to remove the throttle body from the car.Other than that it's a straightforward enough job.

another quick question everyone.
how much play is normal in the auto box. when i stop and put it in park and switch off and pull handbrake, when i release the foot brake it rolls maybe 6 or 9 inches before stopping. is the gearbox on the way out, or low on oil maybe

I've not had an auto Volvo for a good many years[they were a 144 and a 245]but have had many other cars with auto boxes and would say that any more than a very small "rock" while the locking pawl engages is too much movement and as far as I know oil level in the box has no bearing on the matter.Whether this means the box is on its way out I can't answer.

Guesses:
Parking pawl chewed up?
Available slots for said pawl chewed away due to placing a moving vehicle into Park?
Is your "6 or 9 inch" estimate accurate?

Remember, the action of our parking brakes is sloppy at best.

I bought my V70 from a dealer with relatively new brakes. This included strong, 2 click parking brake action.
Now, approaching 18 months of use which includes using the parking brake 20 times at most, the action is sloppy as hell.

yeah it really does roll about 6 to 9 inch after releasing the foot pedal. the handbrake lever is in good condition, or at least it was until this morning. i broke the cable by over tightening it. worse still i should have known it was about to break by the tension in the nut.

Hi Dippydog, re your post
My car is a P1 2.4 n/a engine and I don't know if they run the same throttle body as the P2 cars-mine has the Magnetti Marelli type with 2 TPS.Most of the time it would run ok except when you got to 3,000 revs it was like hitting a brick wall,at other times the revs would hunt up and down while on tick over and changing gear was like using a switch with power on power off giving a kangaroo effect. If it's the same 2 TPS system then you only change one of them[bought mine off e-bay and it came with an instruction sheet]If you're using the original throttle body and just changing the one TPS there's no re-programming needed. It's called the Sacer method. There is someone on here who has excellent reports of his work that can do these repairs if you send the throttle body off to him if you don't feel confident in doing the repair yourself.HTH

do you have the details of the chap you mention who repairs the throttle bodies? Thanks

I'm afraid I can't recall the forum members details for the throttle repair it's quite some while since I saw any posts mentioning him.I have it in the back of my mind that he was in the London area with a Polish sounding name but that could have been in relation to a different issue.
