I think you have a case for having this work done FOC. It is recall work and is not dependant upon whether Volvo serviced the car. If the part failed and as a consequence the car crashed and someone lost their life, Volvo would be liable for huge damages as their car, by their own admission from it being subject to a recall, would be deemed to be faulty and the manufacturer would be held responsible. The dealer might not care as they only have some responsiblity if they were the ones who serviced the car in the past and failed to alert you to the recall but Volvo should worry that one of their cars is running around with a serious fault that is their responsibility and they should be going after the dealer for allowing this situation to develop. If the dealer doesn't take up the matter on your behalf and have the recall done, contact Volvo and take up the case directly with them. Obtain the original recall notice and quote it.

2011 S80 D3 TENSIONER and other models!
Thanks for that.
I have no intention of letting it drop,i have been on to trading standards regarding this issue, they should be able to check the part itself for recall. I am keeping my old tensioner when the job is done at volvo on wednesday. It is going to be very hard not to create too much with the dealer at the moment,i just want the job done ,then follow it up. You are right how can volvo allow this? Cheers |

2011 s80 d3 tensioner
Dealer says as its not on their recall list for my car,i will have to pay.
Now spoken to volvo uk they say they will raise a technical query about this. my leaking windscreen i have told them about this as well. If i have no joy with them i will get VOSA involved,as i believe they are the ones that issue the recalls not volvo, volvo supplies them information about a fault/part and cars it would apply to. If its the part itself only and no other factors, they should all be recalled. See what happens. |

Hi
On the Honest John review of the S80 he also lists the various Recalls as part of his Review. One of them seems to be your problem - it WAS a recall in 2010 [but I realise yours is a 2011 model but maybe somehow had the wrong (hydraulic) tensioner fitted!]. It's listed under Good and Bad, and says "1/04/2010R/2010/033VOLVO CARS80, V70 & XC70auxiliary drive belt may detach000312055705 28" |

Mine is a 2011 d3 and had the hydraulic tensioner also. Sadly I believe it was called a re work rather than a recall and I had to pay to have mine done.
Waste of time it was 6 months later i took it all off and made my own design
