Default 940 cuts out very occassionally just as reaches temp

Hi I have a 1995 940 lpt 2.3l manual. It has done 130K miles and I have had it for 2 1/2 years and really like it. It is a bit rough around the edges but well and truly used. But living on Jersey does about 6000 miles a year. However the wife's 97 merc c200 has an ECU problem so the Volvo might have to tour France for two weeks. Clearly not a problem...except.....

Very occasional the engine just dies it seems to happen just as the car reaches temperature probably about 3 to 5 minutes after starting the journey. If I turn the ignition of and try to start it whilst still rolling along it struggles but if I give the engine a moment by coming to a stop it will start straight away.

It has done this about 5 times and today it nearly died but picked up again. It pulls strongly and recently had an oil change and new plugs. It had new leads when I bought the car. I also posted here some time ago when the +ve on the radio shorted out some wires which I fixed. The diagnostic box is showing no errors on pins 2 and 6.

So would you take it to France (I have two young daughters)? Or hire a car. Or can anyone make some suggestion about where I could start fault finding. Should I just change the airmass flow unit?

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Thank you.

Resolder the connections in your fuel pump relay or buy a replacement.

Additionally have a look at the wire to the crank position sensor, it chafes through, the sensor itself can die too.

Resolder the injector relay AKA radio suppression relay

Check the connectors on the ignition amplifier.

Thanks Guys,

I have re-soldered the fuel pump relay. No obvious signs of a dry/cracked joints but a couple where a flat matt grey rather than shiny. Fingers crossed. I also checked the position sensor wire and it looked OK.

Air con next but will do some investigating first......
