Question XC90 reversing sensor issues in rain

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can shed some light as to why my reversing sensors give a constant beep once it's been raining,

If it stays dry for 2 days they work a treat,

Can somebody tell me does the water ingress in the face of the sensors or in the back somewhere if so how to seal it up to stop the water..,

Any help would be much appreciated 👍

Hi depending on the age of your car it can be either water ingress to the actual sensor(s), and or the wiring loom, there are upgraded parts to fix both, you may hear suggestions on how to seal with silicon grease, but its only a temp measure the problem will return .... been there argued with Volvo

My guess if its a 2007 on car its the wiring loom, earlier, could be both.

Either way its a bumper off to fix.

Hope it helps

Ok great I'm happy to take the bumper off to have a look, with regards to the new upgraded parts can these be purchased from a moter factors or is it a Volvo dealer only
Thanks again
Danny

Question Question re reversing sensor.

Hi, hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread but I have a similar issue. The same issue in fact.

Vida says it is number 3 sensor, (offside inner).
I am going to drop the bumper off and check the wiring, but want to have a spare sensor ready as I do not want to take it off twice.

VIDA says my sensor is number 30765108 but replacement parts may be different.
(Mine is a 2006 model year, pre facelift model but with the 185 bhp engine)
There are quite a few used sensors on eBay, unfortunately I can only find this part number on a used sensor from Europe for £12 plus £12 postage. (And it will be at least 12 years old), or a painted one from the uk, and I need plain plastic.
So my questions are, does anyone know what other sensor numbers will work? I would prefer a genuine Volvo used one.
Secondly does anyone know of any after market ones that are any good? They range in price from £10 to £30 and loads say they replace 30765108...but do they? If someone found a good one can you let me know please?

I really can't face paying £80 for the new Volvo one to cure a minor issue.

As well as the other replies, there was a service bulletin about the water entering the narrow gap between sensor and bumper, causing reflections to the pulses

The Volvo solution was I think silicon grease and or sealant to stop water ingress.

I suffer the same but as I park in a garage and do not drive every day, my bumper / sensors / loom dry out between rainfalls, so the recurrence is infrequent for me

I read on an old xc90 post that Jaguar sensors are the same and much cheaper.

I've been down both roads - replacement individual faulty sensors with genuine/Jag sensors and fitting a full set of after-market. The best solution for me was to replace the loom (genuine) and all the sensors (aftermarket). You can't mix sensors.

I replaced one sensor and followed advice on here to use the Jaguar part as far cheaper.

Worked perfectly and no further issues several years later.

Mine was a 2010 car.
