Smile V70 Classic - Heartbreak

Hi all, never used a forum before so apologies in advance for any unintentional errors. I have a V70 Classic (2000) that I've had since 2001. It is a truly excellent engine (circa 120k). Never let me down, starts first time and runs beautifully having been serviced every year. Generally in good condition but obviously time/use takes it toll. I am about to invest in a newer Volvo and I know my V70 will only be of scrap value to the trader which is a shame as I love the car. I wish I had the skill, space and resources to invest in her but I simply haven't. So, my request is; can anyone point me in the direction of finding her a new home within the community rather than have her broken up. Unnecessarily sentimental I know but I thought I'd give it a go. Thanks for reading.

There's a Sales section within this part of the forum so it's just for S60/V70/S80. It's a good idea to add some pictures if you list it in there. If there's a place to find V70 enthusiasts it's here.

I absolutely understand by the way, especially when you've had a car for a long time it gets so that it one of the family.

As simonwedge says put an ad in the sales section on here.Give honest description of condition, what engine/gearbox[i.e. petrol/diesel manual/auto]any service history-have timing and auxiliary belts/tensioners been replaced etc.- length of M.o.T. left-if any-pictures always a good idea.120,000mls is nothing to one of these cars so there's plenty of life left in yours, then add a price. If you do social media I believe Facebook have selling pages so possibly list on there and Gumtree is I understand free to advertise on also.

I too agree with the advice offered by both 'simonwedge' and 'Dippydog' above, 'Nev1964', but would add a note of caution - do not expect too much.

I had a 1987 745 that we bought in 1998 and ran for 18 years. In that time we became very attached to the car, but in the end severe underbody corrosion (the car's, not mine!) meant that it was time for us to part company.

We looked for a nice 945/965/V90 to replace it, but could not find one that was suitable. We began looking at V70s, and found, yes, a 2000 'Classic' (7 seats, automatic) with 118K up. The dealer was asking £695, but offered it to me as a 'trade sale' with 5 months MOT remaining for £550. The car subsequently went through the MOT with just a little work on the handbrake and welding the rear exhaust bracket.

I think your car may find a home at around £500 in the sales section. You don't say what attention it requires, but if that should be extensive / cost prohibitive, someone may take it on as a 'breaker' for perhaps half that.

Sorry to appear pessimistic, but I have found that it is better to be realistic about such things. If the car is not too far gone, have you considered having the issues addressed professionally and keeping the car? There is much to be said for the devil you know ...

Regards, John.

Why get rid of such a good car? It will always be cheaper to keep it going than buying a newer one ....

Default Thank you.

Thanks very much to you all for responding so quickly. Very much appreciated. I will get some photos sorted and put her up on the sales section as advised. Best. Nev
