The major updates have been released around May/November so far, but this is a dealer job.
There is no sequence in the system updates OTA release. Maybe once a year or less 🙂,but they are minor and I don't expect any big changes.

I don't think I've seen any updates other than one or two of the apps since 2017. I suspect there won't be anything now in the future.

Interesting to note that with the XC40 recharge, OTA full system updates will be available. My understanding is that Volvo haven't enable this previously due to concerns over updates failing leaving owners with an undrivable car …

I’ve downloaded the update but when plugged in it says “Newer version already exists”. Anyone the same?

Did the message appear immediately after plugging in the stick?

Once I'd sorted out how to do the download correctly and get the whole 1.8GB update onto the stick, I then started the engine and pushed the stick into the USB connection.

Up popped the appropriate instructions box and I clicked on 'Yes'.

I got to the point where I got a further message telling me the update was actually installing but it then just seemed to stick on 0%.

And the message actually disappeared a couple of times too. So what does that mean after 15 minutes? I do appreciate the update could take several hours but I would like to see something which is indicative of something actually happening - like, for example, a moving ribbon.

I'm not a techy idiot, in fact the opposite, but this stuff does get to be very difficult. There are inadequate instructions and indications as to what is happening are totally lacking, IMHO.

eg. Higher up the page one or two posters mention 'OTA'. I had to use Google to find out this means 'Over The Air'. Anyhow, now I know that, but nevertheless, the learning curve is exceedingly steep.

As any new download is installing there should be an small install ongoing circle turning in the top right corner of the sensus screen (like a small buffering circle)
An update is carried out in two stages in the car, the downloading and the instalation. Once installed a message says install complete.

Installing a 49GB map of Europe doesn't take an hour, so 1.8GB won't take hours, rather minuts.

It does now. First time I never saw a complete message. It just went to this after I had come back to the car.
