Hi Spudd

I've used cheaper brands of glow plugs on my previously owned s40 . They did not last very long and had to be replaced again within 12 months. I would use the original volvo glow plugs

I had one glow plug replaced on my xc90 about 18 months ago with a volvo one. Had no problems so far.

99% chance it's one or more glow plugs. NGK are fine, OEM are I think, BERU. About £13 each from Euro Car Parts. Give them a good squirt of WD40 or the likes before removal, and get the engine warm. I always crack them off, and then retighten slightly before undoing them, as the can snap, leaving a portion in the head. 30 min job to do all 5.

OBD socket is by your right knee at bottom of dash, behind a little pull open flap.
