Default 300,000 and still purring

My 2002 V40 1.9D hit the 300,000 milke mark today. Not bad for a car I bought 6 and a half years ago for £1450 with 128k on the clock. I've spent about £6k keeping it on the road during that time so that works out at less than £100 p.m. purchase and maintenance costs for over 170k miles of driving. Puts the costs of the PCP deals on new cars these days into perspective. Would I want a brand new Volvo, absolutley yes. Would I want to be paying £300 to £400 per month plus servicing costs for the pleasure - probably not. I can't see the current generation of new Volvos reaching this sort of longevity but I could be wrong. Any thoughts anyone? When this V40 retires I'll be looking to get another one the same which can be got with a bit of patient hunting for around £1000 with 150k mile on them so they've only done half their lifespan by that point. Maybe I'll get my current V40 up to 400k miles before then but I reckon I'll need to get the welder out before then, but I believe that if the engine and gearbox is still sound then it would be worth it.

Well done. 300000m isn't trivial.

359,537 and not quite purring, but not too bad for a 1.8 petrol, but only humble Kilometres though, so a mere 223,000 miles !
