Manual gearbox ticking noise on idle
Hi! I have a problem with my 2005 V70 2.4 petrol (B5244SG, manual gearbox). If the car is on idle and clutch pedal has not been pushed down then you can hear "ticking" noise from the engine department. As soon as you press the clutch pedal the noise disappears. We already swapped gearbox with another used one. The clutch pressure bearing is new. Flywheel and clutch seemed alright.
Hoping to find help and recommendations from here Thanks in advance. |

My clutch rattles when it’s cold. It sounds just like a transmission that has no oil in it (DAMHIK). Chances are it’s either your oil level is very low or the springs on the clutch plate. I changed the oil on my 6 speed at 155k and it came out looking more or less exactly how it went in, even though it felt like it was hotter than cooking oil coming out after a ‘challenging’ drive to the workshop. Didn’t make a jot of difference to the cold noise so I just turned the radio up a little, problem went away. Bear in mind that clutch rattle doesn’t mean a worn clutch, it means the torsional vibration springs rattle about when there’s no load on them.
(Or something about to grenade inside the transmission, but they’re usually pretty bulletproof, although you have had to swap one out....) |

Hi, have you solved your clutch ticking/rattling problem? Seems I may have the same issue...

Throwing a very wild guess out there, could it be related to the PCV ? Does it tick with the engine dipstick pulled?

Another forum member suggested DMF springs are bad. Now I wonder whether I can drive it for a few dozen miles or would driving cause immediate total failure... |
