Might the car have displayed a ‘show plate’ for the day, hence not registered to a vehicle. I have no idea about the rules, just a thought..

Hi All,
I tried this with some other cars that I snapped on shows I have been to in general a lot of cars with a 3 letters and 3 numbers for the number plate seem to catch out the MOT history checker as do a number of eastern block cars including those that have been legally registered here for more than 20 years. I entered the registration of my 60 years old motorbike, which I had at school and is currently dismantled in my shed (where its been for 30 years!) and it came up, although not with a computerised MoT (that didn't exist when I last used it).
However, I also entered a Volvo 240 which I scrapped 3 years ago (and told the DVLA so) and it is still listed although it has no record of the computerised MoT it failed on 7 years back! It does, however, recognise my imported PV as "unknown Volvo" but that car hasn't had an MoT since records were computerised. So what system do the Police use for their ANPRs when checking your car out on the road? If the gov site it is obviously lacking, but what is it saying about the car in question? How does one prove one's car is legal when even the V5C states having that document is no proof of ownership - I mean how does one prove an old 2nd hand car paid for with cash is yours? The car on the original post definitely does exist as it drove home past me! So typical of England now - getting bogged-down with its own security and computerisation systems. We were so much more efficient when we had concienscious clerks doing it all by hand. Heaven help us with the Irish border crossing when we emerge from Brexit - but that is a different topic! Paul |
