Default V50 DPF delete reversal - How?

My 1.6 Diesel V50 has been getting a bit smelly so replaced EGR , tightened injectors etc to no avail. Now my mechanic drilled a hole in the DPF case and it turns out there's nothing in there. So someone has removed the DPF. Problem is, the car doesn't know this so it thinks it's still there so if I replace it with a new one how will it know to do a regen etc?

How do these DPF deletes work? I took it to a CEM specialist who couldn't quite get the original software reloaded onto the CEM properly. Do they trick the CEM using a hardware approach ( shorting out / re-wiring ? )

I'd love to reinstall a DPF but there's no point if the CEM doesn't know it's there as it'll get clogged up in no time.

Any insights? The car is great otherwise , just the exhaust stinks!

Thanks!

How long have you had this car it must of been a shock to discover that it had been removed

I think there's a way to fool the car into thinking there's a DPF by adding a resistor to the wiring somewhere / somehow. Chances are that your car thinks it has a clean DPF. You'd need to do some searching online to find if/how to do it, then see if it's been done to yours.

It may have been remapped with a DPF delete, if it's done via software then you'll need Volvo to over write the file on the ECU.

I'm pretty sure having no DPF is illegal and an MOT failure now, so would definitely get it sorted.

ECM reload should sort it, any dealer or Volvo indie with licensed VIDA should be able to do it for you

another chap on here had same issue, was unable to reload software as clearly there was a checksum error, unsurprising if the software has been modified. So, you may have difficulty getting it corrected. It's possible the other fellows issue was a little different, fingers crossed.
