Default V40 Seat removal

Hi, I have organised to purchase some leather seats for my V40 2003 (possibly from one of you) and I am looking for a guide on how to remove the front and rear seats in a Phase 2 V40.

I have searched the forum and found bits of advice here and there, and the odd photo but I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction of a comprehensive guide or even a video?

Thank you for your help

It is so simple it doesn't need a guide.

Before you start disconnect the battery and make sure the system is discharged - so the airbags are not affected.

Front seats: prise off the trim cover on the seat near the bottom of the seatbelt Undo the seatbelt fixing bolt. Slide the seat back on the runners and prise off the trim end caps and undo the front runner fixing bolts, slide the seat forward and do the same on the rear ends of the runners. Tilt seat back and disconnect all wiring plugs from underneath the seat. Lift seat from car.

Rear seats: lift up base cushions and unbolt the hinges, remove from car.
Undo the hinge bolts at the bottom of the backrests, release seat locking catches and lift from car. Undo the single bolt at the base of the side bolsters and lift up the bolster to release the top hook, remove from car.

Refitting is a reversal of removal.

Hi ITSV40 thanks for the reply. How have you been?

My plan is to remove my current nylon rear, centre rest, and passenger seats, drive up to collect the leather seats, fit them at the collection and put the nylon drivers seat in the boot after i have fitted all the leather seats.

School boy question: but after I have disconnected the battery, how am i going to know if the system is discharged, with respect to the air bags before I start removing seats?

I'm good, thanks for asking

Disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes or so - some people turn the headlights on -after disconnecting the battery - to discharge the system. I just generally wait a few minutes while messing about with something else.

One flaw in your plans: you can remove the back seats without disconnecting the battery and run the car as normal. Don't disconnect either of the front seats and reconnect the battery before replacing the seats and connecting everything up or it will throw an SRS code and I think that is a dealer job to switch off.

If you need the extra room you can always fold the front seat backrest forward and slide the seat under the dash as far as it will go. You will have bags of room then.

Hi,
Would you be prepared to sell the passenger front seat base once you have changed to leather?

Thanks mate, I am glad I asked as usual. I would of taken out the front passenger seat otherwise before the trip up to collect the other seats.

Waiting on final confirmation of the purchase of my leather seats but as soon as I have that I will take out the rear seats and swap over the front seats when I arrive to get the leather ones.

Phandy. I missed out one vital step in the instructions above.

When you come to undo the rear bolt on the front seat runners, you will find the bolt on the inner runner is under the centre console. the rear end of the console needs lifting slightly to gain access to the bolt.

Lift up the centre armrest and in the bottom of the cubby box you will see a little rectangular cover panel, prise this up with a small screwdriver, this will then reveal two selftapping screws. Undo the screws and the rear end of the console can be lifted up sufficient to gain access to the runner bolts.

Good luck, leather will look good. I like leather.

Hey mate, thanks for that. I will go and have a look at that now. I am taking these instructions with me anyway when I travel to St Austell on Sunday.
