Default rat a tat tat

well, my car has done loads of miles but still runs pretty sweetly.
It does make a row though, its a kind of ta ta ta ta ta ta or chugga chugga, its most noticable when its parked next to a wall and the sound bounces off it.
I could summarise the noise by being the kind of noise made by tires old Corsa's.
I'd love to sort it, any ideas?

SOunds like the frayed belt I had on a Saab a few years back it had frayed and the bit from it was doing damage to everything else around it!

Hello, Big differences between ta ta ta and chugga chugga chugga. Is the noise engine speed related? Can you park next to the wall you mentioned and get out of the car? Hold a damp rag over the end of the exhaust pipe and listen for a change. Open the hood and listen around. Bring a friend with good hearing. Remember you can release the auxillary belt and run the engine for a moment to see if it's alternator, power steering pump, A/C, or belt tensioner related. Chuggachuggatatawhizbangpoo, Kira

I was thinking belts, maybe I should just bite the bullet and get them both changed, and I just bought a boat!

it is defo engine speed related.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm off to go and get some singing lessons so I can accurately describe the sound using the medium of song.
