Default Brake lube?

Hi all

I am going to work on my front brakes. (V70 T5 302mm).

Mintex strongly recommend **not** using copper grease on their components.

What do people use (on various brands of disks and pads). For example to stop the hub surface from rusting, and to help the pads move in their guides? What about between the pads and the caliper pistons?

Thanks
Steve

Hi,

I work in a garage and Copper grease is always applied to the areas contacted by shoes, pads etc. The application is light and prevents squeals occurring.

For metal to metal, copper grease is the best. The most important thing is to apply in the same way a seaside landlady makes sandwiches. Wipe a small amount on and wipe it off. It only needs a very small amount.

I've always used copper grease on Mintex and Ferodo pads and never had a problem.

Copper grease though still widely used is a little old fashioned. It was never designed as a lubricating grease but primarily as an anti seize compound.

Some modern alternatives are a dedicated brake grease (Ceratec/Ate plastilube) or another is Ceramic grease.

No rights or wrongs just plenty of choices.

Mintex. Good luck with long and effective service from this once top brand. Now believed to be a "bought out" brand name.
