I knew there was one other thing!

No, the ABS is still broken too. Didn't show as a fault on the test as I turned the engine off after I drove the car in the garage and the warning lamps don't come on unless driving over 20mph.

Sneaky of me I know

Offside rear disc needs replacing (that's a pair to me, plus pads)
Offside rear calliper seized (could be why my fuel consumption is high)
Both rear tyres need replacing.
Front near side suspension arm needs replacing.
Both outer CV joints are shot (only failed for CV boots but the joints are FUBAR'd so see no point in fighting to take them off and not putting new ones on)
Handbrake cable snapped during the test.
Both front indicators aren't orange enough.
Fuel tank is leaking.

On top of all that I have an awful noise coming from the front offside corner. Every time I turn left and all the weight is thrown onto the opposite corner there's a horrible noise and acoustic vibration. Thought it was the bearing but I replaced that last weekend and the noise persists and is steadily getting worse.

Chap at the garage said it could be the gearbox. If that goes south it really is lights out.
If that's not enough to 'bin it' what would be?

noise etc - could be a driveshaft ?

much of the stuff on your list is general maintenece youd have to do to any car, new orange bulbs no big deal etc. But is it worth it to keep on old banger going ? Perhaps see what you can find for sale.

There very good cars but time to let go of this one looking at that list.
I know with mine if it wasn't such a useful car for chucking things in the back very regularly I'd have let mine go as well as always something every 2 or 3 months.
Of course I can do the work myself which means no garage bills.

stick it on evilbuy spares repair, you wont get a lt but more than the scrap yard will give you.

Round where I am theres loads of people advertising to collect scrap cars, last time I rang around (escort van) their offers varied a lot, one of them was generous, I sold it to him.

Unless you buy another car the same but all good, then you hafe a lot of spare parts, if you have the space/inclination.

I dont want to know about yer personal inclinations

I have often had things go wrong with mine when I thought it was terminal but on further investigation, the solutions were very simple.

Turning noise - grease the stops on the wishbones
Emissions failure - check the pipes are all on and secure
All ECUs dead and not responding - rusted earth strap
Big oil leak - small cambelt sensor oil seal - 5 minute job (I did have the crankshaft one go as well but that's another story.
Another big oil leak - changed the filler cap and replaced the dip stick tube oil seal.
Nasty rattling from brakes - pin had fallen out - replaced with new
ABS not working - replaced with 'fixed unit' and also replaced ABS rings on hubs.
Nasty clacking noise from rear suspension - stone caught between the transverse axles.
Trouble starting part 1 - Starter relay
Trouble starting part 2 - dusty and dirty ring loop thingy on the ignition
Trouble starting part 3 - Fuel pump knacked because I ran it too low on fuel and pump does not like being dry
Trouble starting part 3 - Bought a propoer Volvo battery rather than one from Halfrauds

Find out the root cause, price things up and then make your decision
