update to (whats happening here)
reg the car loosing all power, brakes ect, my local volvo mechanic thinks it is the distributor, quoted £670 for part, then labour on top. however i have since driven over 300 miles with no cut outs, so i was thinking maybe it could have been a bit of dirty gas what has now been flushed through so to speak.i did read a thread somewhere saying if you let the lpg tank run completely dry, then run on petrol for a while b4 returning to lpg, this could become a little tempremental for the switch back over to gas. i know my mechanic put multi bore plugs in the car, but i dont think that would cause my cars symptoms. i will now get the lpg serviced, and change to single bore plugs.
any ideas as to why it seems to have fixed itself most welcome. cheers |

I replied to your earlier post. Volvo dealers will be able to change gas distributors etc., but will charge more. Try to get an independent LPG garage; the one I found was happy to remove and clean the distributor, but I had to go to Edinburgh as one closer to me in Glasgow wouldn't do that. A gas service will be worthwhile, but it's unlikely to cure your problem. Mine would run a couple of hundred miles then cut out like yours. Scary at 60 round a corner! I was told by my independent garage that it's the moving part in the stepper motor that stops moving suddenly, causing cutout.
See posts on here by CNG BiFuel; he's very knowledgeable. |

Until you get it fixed you could try learning to change from gas to petrol without taking your eyes off the road. Then when it cuts out, switch it to petrol as quick as you can. DON'T turn the ignition key off; the steering will lock! This worked for me; mine is manual. It's just like bump starting it with a flat battery, only at a higher speed. Not certain about doing this with an automatic ,although it should work if the car remains in gear. Best of luck; keep safe.

When I had the S60 bi-fuel auto with the same fault I got very adept at knocking it into neutral, pressing the petrol switch and restarting it while coasting. Mine always seemed to cut out on corners in it's attempt to kill me.
When I sold it (due to child) I was looking for a bi-fuel V70 for about half a second until I realised the diesel was faster, more economical and less likely to cut out on me. |

I would be very surprised if it this is NOT the stepper. If it is not, it soon will be. 90% of all faults on these come down to it, or... a variation, a gunked-up dizzy which in turn heats and mashes the stepper. ie the stepper. I recon these and have stock. Electronics is my 'thang'.
But before you put a new stepper back on, clean that dizzy and lube it with GT85 PTFE spray). Nothing with silicon, or you'll mash your lambda too. And before that fire some injector cleaner in the body and leave it to soak overnight - with a 2p coin over the opening to stop the cleaner evaporating into the night. A stitch in time.... anyone out there, clean your dizzy now or weep later. Especially if you run LPG over CNG. LPG is dirty as f.... The Necam system is much maligned, these are good and so simple. Like most things, look after it or cry. Volvo sent amny out without filters because space is tight, and there is a design fault even on the new steppers. I sort these. if you're not handy, the outfit of choice for service on Necam is in Thirsk. [I recon his thrown steppers and in my book better than new] He's your man and has all the parts
