Why not just get it repaired, there’s a chap on here who has a quick turnaround of the gauge cluster repair https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=143579 you’re car will only be off the road 2-3 days. The v70 one may fit as a temporary bodge, bit you’ll likely set loads of codes. Don’t know where the car works the rpm value out - may not read right putting a cluster for a 5 cylinder car in a 6 cylinder one.

Hi, for what it is worth, I have only positive experience with lucasz at Volvo diagnostics. I would highly recommend from personal experience. He has all the necessary diagnostics too.

Don’t be sure it’s the DIM(Driver information Module/Instrument Cluster).
I’ve just had similar symptoms and have now fixed it (hopefully) thanks to Lukas at Volvo Diagnostics. See below. https://www.volvodiagnostic.com/ My failure would be a thud from the auto gearbox then after a couple of minutes a brake error message and no indicators speed rpm etc. It happened when warm and I could delay it by having the aircon on cold and removing the trim above the pedals to allow the cold air up to cool the CEM(Central Electronic Module). I could shut down the engine and leave everything to cool down a bit then restart and it would be fine apart from the yellow warning triangle and an airbag message – which could be cleared by Vida/Dice. Other Vida/Dice error faults were CEM related. If you go in the Volvo Diagnostics ‘shop’ in his website you will find repairs for the CEM and DIM(Driver information Module/Instrument Cluster). When reading the error descriptions on the website I initially thought my problems was the DIM because it mentioned an SRS airbag message. However I sent the attached fault code pictures through to Lukas and he was sure it was the CEM. I ‘ve just had it repaired and all seems ok now. Both CEM and DIM are easy to remove – guides on youtube etc. |

Are you saying that you swapped the DIM from your 2002 V70 standard petrol engine and put it into your 2003 T6 XC90? And it worked?

Yes all was working when I swapped over. Rev counter and speedo now work but indicators and all bulbs not now working. This maybe because the V70 has sat for two years in the heat and dash electrics have detiorated. So will have to send it off for repair. In fact I'm now trying to recall if the V70 dash was already down when I laid her up.
