Stereo/Phone/SatNav : - S40 S 2008 - Stereo replacement

Hi All,
Looking for help, suggestions, tips, and ideas!

I am wanting to replace the built-in cd player and head unit in my 2008 S40.
Doing so will I lose the functionality of the dials, volume, fan speed temp, etc? or will they work but I just won't have an on-screen notification of this anymore?

What has anyone else done that wants to replace theirs? I am doing it really as I want to gain functionality such as sat-nav and hands-free and Bluetooth without the need of having lots of things stuck to my windscreen. I have found this, Pioneer SPH-10BT, and it would be ideal. But I am concerned that I go to the expense and hassle of fitting this then only to find out I can no longer heat my car up?!

I have seen there is a full double din screen you can get which still allows for the Volvo on-screen display for your fan speed, temp, etc but I don't want such a big screen and it's expensive!
