Default XC90 D5 adding 2 Stroke Oil to Fuel

Whilst doing a bit of a google search re fuel additives I have come across a couple of posts re adding low ash 2 stroke oil to diesel by adding it into the tank at a ratio of 200:1 or approx 300 ml per tank.

Do people do this? Any real benefits?

I know my 2007 XC90 d5 engine sounds a bit noisy/agricultural compared to a lot of the newer diesel engines (friend has an x5 and that sounds really smooth on idle). If it improves the smoothness of the engine that would be nice!

I am not considering adding any other additives to the fuel but was just wondering re the above.

Cheers,

Chunk

Found this Comma oil on amazon 5L low ash mineral 2 stroke oil for just over £20 delivered. In the reviews it mentions quite a few people adding it to various diesel engined cars

It works great at quietening injectors and lots of people use it.
On my Euro 3, I use the pictured 2 stroke and use it almost all the time but on a Euro 4, I would use the same ratio but only every 4 tanks or so due to the DPF.

Yep, same here. I'm using 2-stroke-oil in the fourth car now, works great.

I still have "old" oil out of my Vespa times, so I'm using this... But take that as a reminder, only buy oil, as you need it. I still have around 20l left from nearly 15 years ago.... Doesn't get old, but does make a lot of ******* when you move houses....

Does it take a couple of tanks to make a difference or is it noticeable the first tank full you use with the oil added?

I've always found it to be pretty much instant.....or within a couple of miles.

I'd say, give it two to three rides, maybe a bit more than going to the supermarket around the corner, and you will be noticing the difference.

If you do it the first time in colder temperatures, you notice it instantly.

interesting, I'll try this tomorrow. Always yearn for a slightly more cultured clatter.
