Default single DIN radio?

The factory radio is pretty good for OEM, but I have a top of the range Blaupunkt DAB single DIN radio which I'd like to fit.

Has anyone fitted a single DIN radio to an S40/V50? I'm just wondering which trim adaptor kit you used, and if you used a wiring adaptor to retain the steering wheel controls?

Thanks in advance

I've seem various double DIN stereos in S40/V50...

... but now you've mentioned it, it does seem to be a much more technically challenging job!!!

Oh dear, scrap that one for now then

That Sony looks a lovely solution. Anyone know more about that one or is it just a Photoshopped mock up?

Apart from the BluePower unit which I understand is both expensive and buggy, apparently there's no other solution for us

Well, its not Quite as simple
as someone said, you will loose the Heater control screen, which doubles as the screen for the settings of the car so as well as all the heating+ventilation display you loose
the integrated Car features , locking modes, indicator flash/non/ auto locking etc,, etc

Then there is the "small" bit that the audio system is Multi modules dotted about the car, Amps, tuners, etc and they are all connected with Fiber optic cables. And there is the "MOST" security system, where if you change A module, it all stops working,,,

"bluepower" option , what a Neat Idea of a replacement unit , Shockingly CRAP customer service which you Will need as it doesnt really work properly and they will have forgotten part/parts of your order.

you Can Add to the system that is there BUT you will need a Big wallet as Denison products are Not cheap, they do however work and are compatible with the fiber system.

If its is Just DAB you are after, then one of the Highway add on units will be a Much easier / cheaper option.

Sadly these cars are very locked down and 'Volvo only'.

You may be able to fit your unit but you will loose all of the display options as mentioned.

I don't know if they will still work, just you won't be able to see the temperature you've set etc, or if it'll just be a 'computer says no' and you're left stuffed...

The final speaker wires are just wires, so in theory you could cut all of the speaker cables and wire it all to a stand alone head-unit thus bypassing the Volvo system entirely.

Probably not worth it though.

Sorry, appreciate your query is specific for fitting an aftermarket headunit, though most people are more after bluetooth/aux capability.

If your car has the in-dash CD changer fitted you can use something like the below which emulates the CD changer and allows you to control a bluetooth device with the steering controls.
It uses fibre optic cable to plug into the main volvo headunit.

No personal experience with this particular unit, though I have fitted an Aux input box to the CD changer of a Toyota Yaris, and that worked perfectly but it literally was just an aux in port.

Does anyone know if the controls stop working if you replace the head unit or do the controls work but just without a graphical representation of what is happening?

I believe they still work.

In a previous S40, I had issues with the factory display failing to switch on, but other controls still operated.
