Default V70 LPG Necam Distributor Removal

Hi. I own a 2002 (52 reg) Volvo V70 Factory Fit Bi-Fuel (LPG) Auto. I had the Necam Mega LPG Distributor replaced (by an LPG specialist) with a new unit approx. 18 months 10,000 miles ago due to miss-fire problems. The car has run fine until now. I now have a slight miss-fire back again when running on LPG and the emissions check light is on. (fault interogation indicates a miss-fire on No.5 cyl) The car runs without fault on petrol, and I suspect a blockage of the gas paths in the Distributor. I have tried flushing the Distributor with Injection cleaner, as detailed elsewhere on this forum, but this seems to have made little if any difference.

I believe the Distributor needs to be removed for a strip and thorough internal clean. I wonder if anyone has a procedure/experience for the removal/refitting of the distributor on this particular model?

Regards

i think the coil pack on cyl 5 probably needs replacing first.

i had this error in mine for a while (minus the mis fire) at £60 its probably cheaper than a new distributor

I would start by changing your spark plugs first as these 'wear' quicker with LPG. Use single rather than muti point electrodes for LPG (Bosch Super).

A proper diagnostics scan (Volvo) will reveal the actual component which is causing the misfire (mis-fire on no 5 cylinder is too vague), so maybe worth doing this before going to the expense of a replacement coil pack. Alternatively, switch your coils around and see if the mis-fire error follows).

Hi. Many thanks for your advice. The issue of a faulty coil pack and/or spark plug is a valid point. When I had the problem previously, I did swap these components over to other cylinders but the mis-fire remained with No.5 Cyl and was only cured by replacing the LPG Distributor. However, as the Distributor is only approx. 18 months old, it may well be that the ignition is at fault this time. The car is coming up to it's annual service and I have since spoken to a Volvo dealership and have arranged for the car to be serviced and have the fault investigated by them.

Default nicam distributor

I just bought a 2003 Volvo V70 Bi-Fuel. After buying it second hand the car ran fine for a day then the LPG issues started. Mainly not just one feed blocked on the distributor as per the Volvo S40 I have (and still keep ) but on the v70 it was a total power loss under LPG.
Having read a report from Poland I prefer to use the PTFE DRY lubricant which is non oil based as this WONT rot any rubber components in the distributor. You can get the 3 in one can from any auto shop.
I took off the main supply hose to the distributor by disconnecting from the outlet side of the LPG filter. I have blasted a good measure down the tube then re connected it and this seems to solve the issue at least for a while.
I will persevere with this as it completely cured the similar problem on my S40 and has run for 5 years since.
Hopefully it will save a strip down or purchase of a new distributor.
I would like to hear from any body that has stripped down their distributor to see how well it went afterwards.
Also can any one let me know if they renewed the LPG isolator valve just before the pressure regulator/vaporiser and if so did they have to run the LPG system dry?

Coil packs on these go. On ebay new for £20.00 or get shafted at £50+ if you buy at your local factors. Buy two, one for spare. I have posted many tiems how to do a dizzy clean properly. Don't mince about with it, give it a soak in injector cleaner, particulary if using (depends on how you liek your filth) dirty LPG over god's own gas, CNG. Then narrow your plugs to 0.7 and use cheapo Denso K20PR-U in a V70 (cheapest of all and as good as Bosch or NGK BKR6ES) £10 delivered and £12 at most on eaby for 5.. No snake-oil LPG plugs required. 0.9mm will cause misfires or poor starting if coil-packs are not 100%. LPG or CNG likes smaller gaps. Use PTFE (WIHOUT SILICON) GT85. YOu know the stuff, the cycling crowd use it, when they're not wearing skin-tight (I was never confused) Lycra.

And not just for their chains....
