Default what new brakes for v50?

car needs now breaks, especially the rear. been quoted about £225 for volvo branded parts. Are there any other good options, better options?

Hi Mark,

Have always found Apec to be very good just avoid Mintex. You can find a few suppliers on Ebay and they should cost you around £65 to £70 for a full set.

Regards

Tony.

I always use Bosch ones and never had any issues. Come in at under £100 per axle for disks and pads at b eurocarparts (once you use one of the discount codes that are always on). I would be a bit reluctant to buy brake parts from eBay unless you are sure they are coming from a reputable supplier.

I installed TRW brake pads and disks and they work good.
I actually wanted to buy BOSCH, however they did not have the right disk size, so went with the alternative. I can recommend these two brands, but there are several other good alternatives, like Textar.

Be careful before you order: these cars came with different disk sizes from factory. I used AutoDNA report to find out which mine had. I recommend you do the same.

Everyone will give you diffrent recommendations and advices so its really hard to answer questions like that. I personally were always avoiding Mintex or other low-cost brands like plague when it comes to brakes but other ppl will stand by it and laugh at me for recommending Brembos etc etc.
Bottom line - as said above - make sure you know what front discs you have, came in 3 flavours (280, 302 and 320), rear ones are 280.

For what its worth, OEM discs and pads are german made ATE, and you can buy them for half the price of identical set packed in Volvo box.

done now, just let them go ahead with the volovo ones, though looking at the bill (£288) most of the cost was labour, the bits all in total i think was about £100
