Yea, I use the Tesco stuff spray stuff which is great for the windscreen and the house. I will look at the Toolstn stuff. What I want is something I can put in the tank and won't go to soup. I see that Prestone comes highly recommended by Auto Express.

In respect of homemade screenwash, I'd worry about the windscreen seal and paintwork (or at least the wax on the paintwork) if the alcohol content was too high.

On my previous car I just added a very generous squirt of Aldi Magnum washing up liquid every time I topped up the washer bottle. Didn't cause any noticeable damage, however the car was never waxed by me in the 10 years I owned it.

I would have thought that Magnum would have foamed?

The one major trouble with washing up liquid is almost every single one of them contains salt. We all know what salt does to cars!

I tend to use either ASDA's concentrate - but be careful as the 5litre container is only 20 or25% more expensive than the 2.5 litre container - or Screwfix's concentrate in both the Valdez and the "bean counter" (so-called for the last three of its registration - UHY) daily driver.

Washing-up liquid is a no-no.

LS is probably right about the effective chemicals being removed from things - modern de-icers simply convert solid ice into slushy gunge that you can't shift at all!
