Default odb2 vgate crap

Well bought an odb2 bluetooth elm scanner from ebay.
Looked at a few recommended ones and the only cheap one recommended was Vgate.
It is V1.5 (as recommended by torque somewhere)
Car is 2004 so it should be compatible without any issues.
It arrived today from UK seller and of course it won't work
Also is different from the one in the ebay picture (connector on the other side).
So just a word of warning for you v40 owners to be careful.
I'm guessing the protocol is not supported although it states that it supports it.
Didn't try it on any other car but will try and post an update.

Well here is a little update.
Managed to get it working at last.
The phone had to be within 5 cm of the device litteraly to even get to find the bluetooth connection on the obd2. Anything further and it wouldn't see the odb2 device
Once paired I managed to move it away and get some readings from torque app (got a p0243error so boost valve clening over the weekend).
Well it works (codes and live data) once you manage to pair it so I guess it is worth the tenner it costs
