Are factory bifuels high maintenance after 12 yrs?
Hi , I drive a 15 yr old Volvo S40 petrol it's very reliable easy maintenance wondering if an LPG equipped biofuel Volvo thats 12 years + old like my Volvo will be easy to maintain or are they specific issues that make it more expensive and difficult to maintain the reason I ask is that I might buy a used S80 bifuel that's 12 years plus old when my Volvo eventually is given to my teenager son. But I do want a car that's going to be easy to maintain and keep in the longer term without too much extra cost

The stepper motor on the bi-fuel is it's achiles heel if it's not kept clean, the heavy ends seem to kill it (and it's a £300+ part).
If you look at a bi-fuel make sure it runs perfectly on gas and look after it - there are instructions on how to clean the distributer/stepper on here if you search. Other than the LPG fit they are more-or-less the same as the non-turbo cars in the range. |

^^^ What he said ^^^
Keep it clean or stump-up for its replacement. I have a mod that makes 'em last. Other than that, a BiFuel will pay for itself, yet you'll not pay that much more for one used. If the one you buy does not run, 90% chance it needs a stepper. Nearer £400 or see me. In hte worst case it runs as a petrol-only car and then LPG makes no odds.

Allright guys? I bought a bifuel s60 a week ago. Everything running as it should. It has been serviced good by Volvo.
Any advice in how to keep it running this way? What about that steeper motor cleaning? |

As your PM wasting my time on this subject. This info has been on repeat numerous times both by me and others. If you can't be bothered to spend 45 mins searching and reading this stuff, this can only beg two questions.
1) Why did we all bother? 2) Why would we dignify laziness by repeating ourselves? Particularly if having been the beneficiary of a UK state education, and you still can't be bothered to use it. Try spelling 'Steeper' (sic). Seems, that effort was wasted too. On the other side to this, I am more than happy to help anyone willing to help themselves. They might be able to help me one day. (Mumbles) Get off your backside... Grumpy b*&st$$d out.

You spent 45 minutes already answering these PM's and writing that stupid reply. If you will look back on your own posts you will notice that when you started your own research on the subject NOONE bothered with your questions and helped to the best of their knowledge.
Just don't bother, mate. Delete yourself from these forums if you don't want to share your own experience and get a live. My education and where I am from is none of your concerns. Don't bother answer again. |

Well done.
Methinks: Gentlemen, I think we can take it that he's got off his backside and read up on it. Note: I will help anyone where I can, I happen to know a helluva lot about these Necam systems. Largely because I had no choice. I've ripped 'em to bits and have a stack of recond. steppers. Outside of Koltec I reckon I know more than anyone, not the conceit it appears - no one else knows all that much, other than to keep fitting new parts. I think I can claim mine are better than new, simply because it is not to my advantage to keep selling you another, so sort the cuase of failures. I am yet to prey on the goodwill of those more knowing than me on anything, without giving it a go. Not least, because that way when i get their answer, I have the greater chance of understanding it.
