Default Just saying hi

Just bought xc90 2.4 D5 auto MY 2005
I have 2 questions
At what engine speed should the gearbox change up, mines seems lazy not changing till 2300 revs. Gear change is very smooth with no slip when it does change so I don’t think there is a problem with the gearbox.
My second question is regarding engine temp.
The engine gets to normal working temperature very quickly, I travel 4 miles home from work at 3am so no traffic. The temp is up to normal 1/2 way home, it doesn’t rise any higher so not overheating and I drove home after purchase(18 miles) with no issues.
(Not that I’m complaining I had to start my discovery 1 10 minutes before clocking out just to clear the screen lol).

Hi and welcome.

The gearbox will allow the engine to rev much higher than you would do normally with a manual. It seems strange at first but is completely normal.

Great, perfect! Your thermostat is working correctly.

Welcome to Volvoforums, and to the world of Volvo's, I hope you get lots of trouble free motoring with your XC90, which is one of the most practical cars ever built.
The gearbox will tend to rev higher when first started and oil cold but settles down as it warms up.
Temperature sounds ok to me, a few miles to warm to normal, I have a Defender as well and that takes an age to get any heat going, unlike the Volvo.
