You tried and I appreciate it, so thanks anyway.

It's in Dutch, but I found this:

http://www.forumgas.se/forum/viewtop...7edd47bda8d1c6

Google translate has it sorted to Englsih. Seems an expansive and v.good guide.

That's the guide I followed when overhauling my LPG distributer, the link a few posts down has a lot of pictures that you can follow without the need to read Dutch.

Are you able to try the injector cleaner trick on a CNG car to clean the distributor without removing it?

There seems to be two school's of thought with the Necam system

1. Throw it away, put a new front end on, 'cos fix it for now and it'll be back to bite you.
2. It's fine, you get problems form lack of maintencance. no filter changes etc. Clean-up the gas dist with eitehr a quick-fix squirt of injection cleaner or a refurb kit.

Of course 2 is attarctive, but if the stepper motor goes:, and the cheapest I can find is here:

http://www.autogasshop.co.uk/necam-s...pe-b-199-p.asp

£230.00.

As far as I can see the only differnce between it [the volvo version] and the one for £38.00

at:

http://www.autogasshop.co.uk/necam-s...pe-a-198-p.asp

... is £192 and the innate the requirement to make it more expensive. I'm sure they are, save a detail, identical. If it was a £38.00 fix once eevery 25K miles I'd wear it, only it is not.

If you keep everything clean, why does the stepperr motor go, or does it? I suppose what I'm asking is, does a high mileage BiFuel Volvo exist? By this I mean, one that does not leave a trail of gas distributors and stepper motors behind it? I'm no politician (can you tell?) I have to pay for mine, so where does it leave the rest of us?

I've been talking to classicswede, and unquestionably, to put a new front end on is best, I will do it anyway I think, but is it 'really' needed?

Unreal: A question, when you were putting distibutors at these lucky cars, ... I take it you didn't need to worry too much - I'm sure it was jsut another day, but what was actaully 'up' with them, do you know?

Hi mate to be honest it was almost like the gas crystallised within the unit and seemed to restrict the flow of the gas going to the cylinder but if am honest we did try cleaning out a couple but it just never worked! The only solution we had was to replace them but that's easy when you don't pay the bills!! I would try and contact a gas specialist as am sure they can advise on what's best with regards cleaning or replacement?

I'm sure in your position I'd have done the same, given it a cursory glance and then throw a new one at it. That way you know it's done, and onto the next job. The electorate see our MP swannning about, being all 'green' and cuddly, so outwardly it looks fine.

For chrissakes, a new Necam gas distributor + stepper is £430+Delivery+VAT a throw. Say £500 then, and the aggro. And it doesn't stay working. At least, it won't be 'fit and forget'. If I keep it meticulously clean it may stay working, or may not, mine has only one filter in the vapouriser, for soem reason 1999 dosn't ge the inline filter between the vap & the dist, I can put one in, and keep it changed frequently, but....

Methinks, classicswede's solution becomes attactive, well as attactive as driving to Wales, spending half the value of your car, on a front end, ever can be, anyway. (Read not very), and I love Wales. Hobson's choice?! He's due another call. The man has to eat I suppose.

Default Hunting Bifuel V70

The cure

Threads liek these alwasy end with the OP finding the issue but not posting any findings. Not this time, I will.

The pulse (or hunting) on the idle was casued by the pre-cat lambda sensor. You ask, how did I get to this conclusion. Not easily!

Rember pulsing was only on gas. I changed the ETM first along with new Denso K20PR-U spark plugs. Next was the injector cleaner trick. No joy. Next was to recondition the distributor. Got a kit from Autogas in Thirsk. No joy. Next I cleaned the MAF. No joy.

Having read-up on the received wisdom, I started to think I needed a stepper motor. At thsi point I had a bit of luck. Then CE light came on when running petrol, and codes apeared, which had not happened up to thsi point. Codes said the Lambda. Chnaged it and volia, the pulsing idle on gas, along with the CE light went.

I've seen Youtube video of how the tacho and engine looks/sounds with an ETM fualt, and what I had was very similar, but with hindsight, slightly differnt. My engine would pulse far faster. Probaby twice as quickly. So if you have a fast pulsing idle, look at the lambda.

Note: Original Sensor had stamped on it: 920 2309 Denso 3310 Japan 990726 Lambda

Replaced with Denso DOX-1419.

Hope that helps someone. Now, I cross fingers... going from all I hear about the Necam system, the trip tp Wales still looms i fear, just not this week.

Rightly or wrongly, I conclude that my lambda was on the way out, such that running CNG, the Necam ECU was seeing the iffy sensor before the Volvo ECU was, thus it looked liek a CNG Necam/Koltec related fault when in fact it was a general issue.

Seems logical to me, but I can only guess. I hate to think waht that would have cost at a dealership. My Bifuel lives for another day.
