Default V70 bi-fuel issues

anyone got any help or advice on some issues i'm having with out bi-fuel auto?

when accelerating hard there is sometimes a feeling of fuel starvation which will suddenly resolve itself and then car will accelerate as normal. this can be quite subtle in effect, or as serious as the car slowing down before accelerating again (rather worrying when your trying to overtake someone!)

the other one is that randomly the car now just stutters and loses all power. some journeys it will do it it, others it wont do it at all. what happens is that the car will be driving fine, you lift off the accelerator, and then put your foot back on it and there is no power what so ever. sometimes the car will stutter for a moment then be ok, other times its so bad that the revs die and i have to switch to petrol for a few seconds before switching back to gas then the car will carry on as normal.

the car and gas system have both been serviced recently and the gas system has had a new distributor as well.

the people who service it have no idea whats wrong with it, and i'm at a loss as the car is driving me nuts and its our only car.

thanks in advance for any help guys

I don't have any experience with LPG, but the symptoms you are describing sound like a dirty fuel filter. Are there filters on LPG systems? Perhaps that needs to be replaced.

I know nothing about LPG, but it sounds a lot like the problems associated with a knackered MAF.

I would say the problem lies with the pressure regulator. An accredited LPG installer will be able to run online diagnostics and adjust the settings for you.

problem is, as its a bi-fuel with a volvo installation rather than a 3rd party install, most lpg places dont have the volvo computer to see the error codes.

the only thing i can say is that the car works faultlessly on petrol, so i think that rules out the MAF. how could i detirmin if its the pressure regulator

many thanks for the help guys

On my BRC kit there is a OBD connection near the pressure regulator which the fitter used to access the pressure live data with his laptop. By turning a screw on the pressure regulator and viewing the live data he was able to vary the pressure which in turn affects the running and the point at which the system switches over from Petrol to LPG. The pressure regulator contains a rubber gasket/diaphragm which is prone to wear and could have failed after the 'service' causing your problems.

As yours is a Volvo factory install it may well need a trip to the dealer to carry out this adjustment and remove any error codes.

Just to add to this, I had the same thing happen to mine last week. Had to do 1,000 miles over the weekend, so after a quick call to the installers, I actually wound the pressure up myself and it's worked a treat since. *

* Save for the fact that it wouldn't start this morning, nothing to do with the gas, I'm sure!

Is that Captain Jack, Torchwood, Cardiff or Captain Jack, somewhere in the Caribbean?

If Ma Windsor is on the list of illustrious clients, where is the Royal Coat of Arms, By appointment to Her Maj etc?!
