Default Supaguard

Folks,

Just wanted to enquire as to Supaguard

(i) what is it (product)? & how is it applied?

(ii) is it any good/recommended?

I am only asking as picking my new XC90 Active up next week & have to decide if I want it applied.

Appreciate any guidance/comments

Thanks.

Load of rubbish.
Well, it is if you pay someone to do it.
It's just a pack of cleaning products that they apply to your car for a large fee!
You can buy the kits off Ebay for £10-20 and it does the same job.

What andy said x2.

It's a collection of polish and waxes plus some interior treatment sprays which you can buy and apply for much much less than your dealer will charge you.

If you don't fancy doing it yourself which is fair enough I'd give a couple of local valeters a call and ask them how much they would charge to apply similar protection to your car.

Sorry guys, I am going disagree 100% with you.

The product that is applied seals the paintwork very effectively and you can actually feel the difference if your run your hand over a treated and untreated car. The treatment on the carpets is incredible as it stops spills from becomeing stains.

The treatment last for many years as attested by many people who find that the car never needs a major polish again and it keeps the original colour superbly.

The do give you a set of polishes etc after you have had the treatment done, but these do not replace the treatment in any way.

I have had it on several cars and can wholeheartedly recommend spending the £299 on it - you will get this back (and more) when you come to px the car later

Have to say with the discounts that are being offered on the xc90 the cost of supaguard is minimal and having had mine done it does show a noticable difference . Having had many classics over the years that have been polished to a high standard I'm impressed with the supaguard . I'm sure you could get a valeter to do it cheaper but for a car of such value surely you should n't be pennypinching .

Indeed quoted £159 by AC to do it!

I'd trust a professional valeter to apply polish to my car over god knows who at a main dealer any day.

That said I've had supaguard in the past and I'm not saying it's a bad product per se - it's OK it's just overhyped and outrageously overpriced. If you can get it cheaply then fair enough there's no reason not to go for it.

I didn't say it wasn't worth doing, I said it's not worth paying someone lots to do it when you can buy the stuff for under £20. I've had Supaguard on all my cars, but I've done it at a fraction of the cost by doing it myself!

Another item to bear in mind is that with an Approved Application you get a warranty on the treatments effectivesness and durability. The £299 from a dealer may be expensive, but when you have paid £34k for a car, I like to drive it away and not have the hassle of polishing it for a while and if you can get the dealer to throw it in for free even better

If you can find a professional to do it for less go for it, but IMHO the use of a sponge for £5.00 from eBay is unlikely give you the same result

(i) Rubbish and sometimes not at all!

(ii) No, do it yourself with good quality polish.

They say it protects the paintwork in ways other polishes etc dont, it wont protect against a stone chip and rust forming as a result. It'll still scratch etc. You'll have to read the warranty claims and exemptions before buying it as you'll probably be limited as to what you can claim for. As for better resale price, how many people buying a second hand car ask if it was supaguarded when bought new???

These are my opinions and application quality will vary from garage to garage but to be honest i would only ever beleive it had been done if i watched it getting applied. After all, what can you see? The water bead? Mine does that every time i wash it cos it has wax in the wash and i polish it properly.

Suppose the real arguement is though, your spending £34,000 on a car, whats another £300??
