I've been quoted £400 by the dealer for a similar product called GardX.

Family friend said it can cause problems if you get into an accident/scratch and the car needs to be re-touched by a body shop

I had the Supaguard treatment on an X-Trail that I owned about five years ago and it was quite effective in maintaining an excellant shine for the two years I had it with only a wash with plain water & I also had a similar treatment on my current Audi as it was part of the purchase deal...but the sad but true fact is that I actually enjoy polishing my cars so I won't be specifying it for my XC60 due in a couple of weeks

I also struggled with this. I've not had a car with paint sealant before - so I was unsure of the benefits. Its also effectively another option and you have to draw the line somewhere.
.... So I ordered my XC60 without the sealant....and then worried ... perhaps needlessly.... but I appled a sealent myself last weekend.

(Carlack is also known as Klasse in the US.http://www.autogeek.net/was.html)

It took some buffing but I'm pleased with the results. It rained today and the car looked great.

It all came down to not wanting to wax the car every month. This should last one year, it cost <25 pounds plus 2-3 hours time and the kit should last 5 -6 applications.
