Default Driveshafts how much play is too much?

Morning all,

Ok Volvo V70 D5 163 180k miles

For the last couple of years been i’ve Had a slight vibration under acceleration at motorway speeds.

Anyway i’ve just been in a RTA with a Mercedes SLK which ended Volvo 1:0 SLK and her insurance has admitted liability.

But she hit my NSF pretty hard, new front wing headlight and NSF door ordered. Also hit the NSF wheel pretty hard. Wheel not bent, but I’m going to to replace the wheel bearing that side because we’re driving to the south of France next week and i’m not happy that a wheel bearing hit that hard has long term survival prospects.

Any hoo back to the original question as I’m replacing bearings it’s an ideal opportunity to throw a new driveshaft at it.

I’ve checked for play in the driveshafts before now and couldn’t find anything obvious. But how much is too much play in the front driveshafts?

1mm?
2mm?
Any discernible play at all?

Is it more likely the long one has gone than the short one?

Thanks in advance

Phil

Same dilemma,
Ive had both my drive shafts pulled but no discernable play. 242k miles though and no receipts to show they have ever been changed before I took ownership at 180k.
I have a judder when moving off in 1st then vibration which really picks up at 50 mph. Eases under acceleration, increases at power lift off!
Very frustrating as I was hoping to take this car to 300k but if I can't find a solution it's new car time...
