Cowl/Scuttle fitting to windscreen

Hello,

I have a 2007 XC90 that recently suffered a major water ingress into the passenger side of the vehicle after a deluge. I believe I have sorted the issue (clogged cowl drain + unplugged blower drain pipe, sunroof drain pipe was checked as well) and dried and reassembled all the carpets and the seat.

After partially removing the cowl/scuttle for cleaning I noticed that it doesn't lay flush with the windscreen along its entire length. It looked to me that it was never designed to have any sealant and that windscreen design allows for water to drip off the bottom into the engine compartment. But for the life of me I cannot find any mention of how important this cowl/scuttle seal is. Is this a problem?
