Default Polestar Upgrade

Apparently they are now offering a Polestar upgrade for some models. I believe it is mainly a software upgrade to improve mid-range performance and also gearbox and throttle response.
Anyone know anything more? It doesn't seem too expensive, but would it make any discernible difference? Anyone with any experience of this?

My S80 D5 Se Lux has the Polestar upgrade and it does make a big difference, the acceleration is much improved almost awesome and overtaking is a breeze. However, there are down sides to this. I cannot get the mpg over 48-5O mpg whereas before it was 57-58 even driving like a Nun on Mogadon, and the engine is noisier than before, some may say sportier sounding, to me it’s just noise.

Fun at times, annoyingly noisy at others....

Default Polestar and driving modes

Regarding Polestar optimisation, do the gearbox improvementes work in all driving modes? Or just when you are in DYNAMIC? I've read that AWD enhancements work only on DYNAMIC (and perhaps with ESP switched off), but I'm unsure about gearbox, which is probably the most interesting feature of Polestar.

Don’t get me wrong, it is great fun and you can p1ss off a few boy racers who don’t expect a Volvo S80 to get up and go leaving them way behind, the torque is amazing 😆

I’ve noticed when driving normally (whatever that isn’t) the gear changes are almost unnoticeable, but if you floor the go pedal, the changes are very snappy and instant.

Polestars offer is just a remap basically. If your car is in warranty its a great thing to have and done by volvo but if its not I would look to other reputable volvo mappers as they are a lot cheaper and some deliver better performance or better mpg depending on what you are after and just as reputable as the polestar.

I just had my S90 D5 polestarred a week ago, and would describe the same experience as Ukwide above reports. Also, just the other day to my (new to me) V40 D4, though so far find the improvement more marginal.

I will need to drive a lot more to explore all the changes. You can read my initial report in the next DRIVER magazine (out April), which will also, with any luck, include a discount for VOC members for Polestar.
