Default Cheaper option Egg Crate 'R' Grille

Anyone else done this:

I got a black egg crate Grille from PFS and transplanted the old flashing and logo (shame the logo has a stone Chip, but hey, ho!) over from my old one using double-sided no more nails tape. Then got an aftermarket R logo off Ebay. Total cost circa £67.

IIRC the sqaures on my OEM ones have more smaller protection stuff behind the bigger sqaure blocks on the front.

I'd personally want more protection behind that grill from PFS but, looks ok.

I see what you're saying and I did consider similar. But, I'm also thinking better airflow into the intercooler, coupled with the fact - for me at least- the aircon rad/condensor at the front is sacrificial as I don't use the aircon and it's totally de-gassed. We shall see anyway..

Looks good like that!

Back when I had my V70 (dark blue) I took a different approach. And, before I go into details... sorry, no pictures of it remain .

I removed the diagonal slash and the Volvo badge. Quite an easy job.

Where the badge sits in the centre, the vertical bars recess slightly. With some judicious care and some Araldite, I built up the recess until it was that same as all the other vertical bars.

With rubbing down and providing a key in the appropriate places masked up the outside 'edge'. Then... sprayed the exposed parts with satin black aerosol.

Then, the coup-de-gras! As I had de-badged the tailgate, I used the set of "VOLVO" letters in the top right-hand corner of the grille as you look at it and where it looked 'right' As I had fitted black 'projector' headlights, it made the front of the car look rather assertive - especially as I had put a strip of white leds in for the rather feeble bulb system.
