Default Clutch noise

Hi all.
Our 1995 945 2.3 lpt , with 113000 miles, has been making a funny noise when realising the clutch pedal ,at bite point, when pulling away in first gear. It's not the kind of squeal I would guess to associate with thrust bearing , but a much deeper ,haunting groan of a noise, which is only for a moment.
I've also noticed that there is quite a bit of vibration on the pedal , sometimes, if I just "feather" my left foot to it while whilst going along in 4th or 5th.
Otherwise all seems fine with clutch & gear changes.
Looked through some posts on clutches last night but nearly fell asleep before finishing.Must say I admire what some of you tackle!
Any advice appreciated as my wife now refuses to drive the car in heavy, stop/start m.way traffic , when the noise is at its' worse.
With thanks,
Dave.

Sound like the "dual mass flywheel" is beginning to fail to me. Sometimes the noise off the flywheel can even go as high as sounding like a bird "chirping", the judder will get worse as the flywheel shocks get more worn.

Dual mass units are not cheap, but please dont go for the cheapest you can buy either or you will be replacing it again in less than 18 months!

Many thanks for your response Stegreg, much appreciated.
Sadly , after reading previous posts also, this is what I dreaded most - if only for the costs involved.
Whilst it's not to bad at mo. ,I guess fairly soon I'll get garage diagnosis + quotes. As much as a part of me would love to do it myself, I simply don't have the time, tools or place.
Our Volvo has been a brilliant car the past 8 years & I hope to keep her going!
Thanks again,
Dave.
