Angry S60 2010,automatic HEAD GASKET

Looking for advice, my s60 broke down a couple of weeks ago, it just stalled and we noticed that the belt has nearly broken, only left a thin belt. i had it re timed and its now running but not much power, its ticking over too. is it my head gasket or could it be something else, if its my head any ideas how much it would be.

What makes you think it's the head gasket? Do you have any coolant in your oil or oil in your coolant? Is your coolant reservoir exhibiting signs of pressurisation? Have you checked all the engine pulleys to make sure they're free running? Any fault codes logged?

Oh my, i will be honest, myself and hubby know nothing about cars, we are going of what people are telling us, i have been told contradicting advice like, it wouldn't run if its the head gasket?? is this true, i have allready paid out £350 to be re timed. i just dont know what to do or where to go, i will certainly take in what you have said Dancake and pass it on, and no faults showing.

Sounds like internal damage to the cylinder head. The timing has jumped due To the belt failure. It only has to become a couple of teeth out for the pistons to contact the valves. This can damage the camshaft bearing caps and bend valves depending on the speed in which the timing jumped. In most cases the cylinder head is scrap. Best get it stripped down and new or second hand head fitted. Unfortunately this won't be cheap.

You have at least 2 belts, maybe even 3 with your model year.
Much more engine info (engine code) and possibly photos would help.
That said and given your admitted lack of knowledge, a professional will need to get involved at some point and they're unlikely to follow advice from an internet forum so I'd get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic.

Head gasket is the least likely possibility given what we know so far.

First we need to know what belt looked thin,

The aux belt driving the alternator etc or the timing belt behind the cover driving the engine,

Next need to know how many teeth the belt was out and when the car stalled ie driving or startup etc

It was the aux belt that nearly snapped, not sure on teeth as i just sent it to a garage to be re timed which he said he did,it was the garage that said it was the valves but not sure how many were damaged, and i was driving it when stalled, about 30mph. when we drove the car home it wasnt changing gear as normal it was racing (over reving) and its like a tapping noise when driving.

Seen this many times unfortunately, in my personal experience around 70-80 percent that get tangled in the crankshaft wreck the head . I'd get the head stripped off next , but as others have said, chances are the head is scrap .
